Hey guys, last week I was was in Chicago to visits NOW Foods for their first ever Immersion Event. There were 11 chosen bloggers from Fitfluential to attend. I have never been to Chicago so I was really excited for this trip.
When I got into my hotel room, I was blown away with all the goodies NOW Foods gave us to try. It ranged from vitamins, supplements, protein powders, food and essential oils! Now THAT’s a swag bag!
We went to Glen Prairie for dinner. They had a huge gluten free and vegan items to choose from. (I had Salmon and gluten free risotto- It was SO good!) I also splurged a little for their gluten free brownie topped with raspberry sorbet
We met with the CEO of Now Foods, Jim Emme, and other Now Foods employees. Jim Emme gave us a little background on Now Foods.
Founded by Elwood Richard in 1968 on the belief that natural Is better, NOW Foods has grown from a small family operation into one of the most highly respected manufacturers in the natural products industry. Still a family-owned company today, NOW provides customers with a comprehensive approach to wellness by offering more than 1,400 dietary supplements, foods, sports nutrition and personal care products. NOW Foods is committed to offering safe, affordable products of the highest quality, and is a highly regarded advocate in the natural products industry. Its state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Bloomingdale, Ill., has been GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice)-certified since 2000 and its in-house laboratory capabilities are among the best in the industry. The company has over 1300 employees, and its products are sold in more than 80 countries. After 45 years in the natural products industry remains committed to its original mission – to provide value in products and services that empower people to lead healthier lives.
I was lucky enough to sit next to John Urban the Now Sports General Manager. And we had soo much to talk about as he was an ex bodybuilder. We talked about diet, being gluten free, lifting weights, competing and he told me how NOW Sports line could help me improve and recover.
After we ate and showered we headed over to the NOW operations facility for a tour. We were shown the process of how everything was made. They are so matriculate by testing EVERYTHING and it’s all made there. They are not outsourcing ingredients, which I found to be super impressive. Everyone that worked there was very happy and the plant was very clean.
During lunch we listened to a presentation by Dr. Wendy Bazilian. She talked about Redefining Health, How to read a Nutritional Label, How NOW sources Natural Ingredients, Their NON-GMO Assurance and her 3R’s Rid, Restock and Reorganize.
I love their statement!
WE ARE COMMITTED TO NATURAL
This commitment is reflected in our Core Values. We believe that GMOs are not natural. We would like to see increased farming of non-GMO crops, and even a ban on GMO crops for human consumption and animal feed. This would help us achieve our ultimate goal, which is for 100% of our products to contain only non-GMO ingredients.
After we headed upstairs to meet with Chef Suzy Singh and were broken up into two groups to bake cookies.
Unfortunately I wasn’t able to eat what we made as there were eggs… BUT Chef Suzy made us all chocolate fudge brownies and chocolate chip banana bread that were Egg, Dairy and Gluten Free! Score!!! They were delicious! I was so happy to find out that NOW Foods are made without the common food allergies: wheat, dairy, soy, nuts, and eggs.
On top of having the best day ever… I found out the CEO, Jim Emme does Crossfit!!! So what did I do? I challenged him to some burps and squats. Crossfit friends unite everywhere!
Ok 1 important things!
